During our week in Tuscany, we made several day trips to a few little towns nearby. It was difficult to choose which place to go, with so many interesting little towns near where we were staying. We finally decided on Monterrigioni and San Gimignano. Monterrigioni is a very well preserved Medieval walled village on top of a hill. Built in the 13th century by the Republic of Siena, its main purpose was to serve as the defensive outpost against Florence. The village remains largely unchanged, still retaining many of its original 13th century features although unfortunately most of the shops now cater solely to tourists.

Instead of eating at the restaurants here, we decided to head back down the hill to a local pub cum restaurant for lunch. The place was packed with locals, including a bunch of tough looking bikers, which was a good sign.
Ryan stuck with his favourite spaghetti carbonara.
While Mia chose her new found favourite, lasagne.
Another day, we drove to San Gimignano, another walled Medieval walled town with its many towers. It's a beautiful little town, especially looking at it from afar. We got a glimpse of it as we drove into town at dusk and walked around town at night after dinner.

My baby boy. Growing up too fast...
Our nightly ritual. Hmmm good but not sure if it's worthy of world champion title though. We had some other pretty darn good ones elsewhere.
