Condor Viewpoint

This was our second hike of the day. After that hearty lunch of steaming hot carrot and ginger soup, our chosen sandwich or salad, mini cakes, nibbles of cheese, olives, ham, nuts, fruit, wine and unlimited soft drinks (much to Ryan’s delight!), coffee, tea, none of us were feeling particularly enthuasiastic about another uphill hike, especially the kids. Mia was lagging behind until our guide casually took her hand, walked her to join him at the front and asked her to lead the expedition. There was no stopping her after that! This little munchkin marched all the way to the top without stopping. The rest of us had a hard time keeping up!

From the back of the pack...

...to the front, leading the charge!

Too tired to celebrate so Nico, our guide, celebrated on her behalf 😆.

Missy Rosy

Breathtaking view from the top.

The wind up here was strong enough to hold a leaning Ryan upright!

Safer to sit than stand!

All too soon it was time to leave.

Mama had a hard time keeping up with lightning fast Mia.

I conquered that!

A well deserved congratulatory carry 😄.

Daddy won’t be able to do this much longer.

Los Cuernos Viewpoint

We began our hike at Salto Grande, the stunning waterfall which joins two large lakes in Torres del Paine, Lake Nordenskjoid and Pehoe Lake. Here we stood by the side of the falls mesmerised by the powerful flow of water crashing down.

As we continued our hike up towards Los Cuernos (The Horns) Viewpoint, we could clearly see the impact of the 2011 forest fire that took place here. Six years later, burnt out trees still dominate much of the landscape here. Los Cuernos (so named after their resemblance to a pair of rocky horns) are part of the Paine Massif, an outcropping of granite peaks nestled  within the heart of the southern Andes and Patagonia.

Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate today, clouds covered the mountains as we got to the lookout and all we saw was a misty layer covering the mountain peaks.

“The Horns” stayed hidden the entire time we were there 🙁.

Perfect timing by our little photographer.

On our way down, we saw the prettiest rainbow over the waterfall. So we stopped and had some fun playing with it!
