We began our hike at Salto Grande, the stunning waterfall which joins two large lakes in Torres del Paine, Lake Nordenskjoid and Pehoe Lake. Here we stood by the side of the falls mesmerised by the powerful flow of water crashing down.
As we continued our hike up towards Los Cuernos (The Horns) Viewpoint, we could clearly see the impact of the 2011 forest fire that took place here. Six years later, burnt out trees still dominate much of the landscape here. Los Cuernos (so named after their resemblance to a pair of rocky horns) are part of the Paine Massif, an outcropping of granite peaks nestled within the heart of the southern Andes and Patagonia.
Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate today, clouds covered the mountains as we got to the lookout and all we saw was a misty layer covering the mountain peaks.
On our way down, we saw the prettiest rainbow over the waterfall. So we stopped and had some fun playing with it!
