Boobies everywhere!

This is the day we were all looking forward to. Today is when we will go blue-footed boobies hunting! The yacht took us to North Seymour Island where we clambered over some rocks and found ourselves on a sparse dry rocky island. Large birds flew over our heads making all kinds of different calls as we walked through this dry land.

A beautiful frigate bird flying magestically in the sky.

A female frigate looking around finding a suitable mate, who has the largest red chest?

So beautiful, all puffed up waiting to attract a mate.

A mother frigate tending to her newly hatched chicks.

This little one has a super sensitive nose, the birds were just too smelly for her. 😆

A juvenile frigate patiently waiting for its parents to return from hunting.

A yellow land iguana stalking its prey.

Our first blue-footed boobie!

Juvenile boobies shed their white fur as they grow older.

Mia got a bit upset when she saw these dead birds on the ground.

Hunting for lunch

These little sea lion pups must have only been around a week or so old.

How innocent they look at this age, animals or humans.

From North Seymour Island we then got back onto the boat and sailed to Bachas Beach for some snorkelling. This beach lies in the north of Santa Cruz and can only be reached by boat. It's a beautiful white coral sand beach inhabited by lots of colourful crabs, marine iguanas and pelicans. Under water, we swam with three giant sea turtles and lots of fish.

These giants are such graceful swimmers.

A couple of human pups frolicking in the water.

This was yet another amazing day. We must have accumulated hundreds of brain pictures (in Mia's words) just on this one day alone!
